About

Founded in 2010, 501tech was created from a simple but powerful vision: every nonprofit deserves access to professional, affordable technology services.

The idea originated with Phil Lakin, who recognized that many Tulsa-area nonprofits were paying too much for IT support while receiving too little value. Through extensive research, surveys, and listening sessions with local nonprofit leaders, a clear need emerged for a trusted technology partner that could provide reliable managed IT services at a cost nonprofits could afford.

With the support of community funding and strategic partnerships, 501tech launched on June 1, 2010 under the leadership of the organization founder, Mark Whitmire. Within its first year, the organization welcomed its first employees and clients, quickly growing into a trusted resource for nonprofits throughout the region. What began as a local initiative soon proved to be something far more unique—a nonprofit-focused technology services model unlike any other in the country.

Today, 501tech continues to fulfill Phil’s original vision by helping nonprofits leverage technology to advance their missions. Through donor-subsidized IT services, discounted technology solutions, and refurbished hardware programs, we empower organizations across Oklahoma to invest more resources into the communities they serve.

Through the generosity of our donors, community partners, and strategic purchasing agreements, 501tech helps organizations invest in technology that strengthens their operations and expands their impact. Our donor-subsidized model allows nonprofits to receive enterprise-level IT services at a fraction of standard market rates, while also gaining access to discounted products, software, and technology solutions through exclusive partner relationships.

In addition to managed IT services and consulting, 501tech redistributes professionally refurbished corporate hardware donated by our in-kind partners. These devices are tested, cleaned, upgraded, and prepared for immediate use by nonprofits and schools across the Tulsa area. By combining expert support, affordable technology, and a mission-driven approach, 501tech empowers organizations to focus less on IT challenges and more on serving their communities.
